Queer by Olive Fitzgerald

In school we learnt the story of Samson
and I imagined him,
strange, blind hands pinning him to his chair
as locks of hair drifted down around his shoulders
like feathers,
like snow.

When I first shaved my head
my mother cried,
but that weakness,
that nakedness
felt so –

felt so.

Olive Fitzgerald is a languages student from London, currently living and studying in Scotland. Their work usually explores ideas about gender, sexuality and mental health. In their spare time, they work with refugees, and enjoy cooking, travelling and bothering the local wildlife.
